Christmas is actually one of the largest craft-making holidays and many people sit together as a family and create some crafts. From homemade ornaments to gingerbread houses, there are several Christmas traditions you can choose from to create memorable Christmas crafts with your children. If you need tips on a few different Christmas craft ideas, here are some that will help you get started:
Ornaments. If you have kids, one of the best Christmas decorations to create is homemade ornaments. As your kids start to get older, you can do more with ornaments besides create paper ones. Boondoggle ornaments are a lot of fun for kids that are in their tweens. Picture ornaments are wonderful keepsakes and great gifts for parents and grandparents. To make them, all you need is some cardstock paper and some laminate material along with a hook for the tree. Be sure to have the kids sign their name and the year on the back of the ornaments.
Jingle Bell Door Hanger. Since jingle bells are such a large part of the holiday season, you need add them to your home. A jingle bell door hanger is the perfect way to spread a little holiday cheer with everyone that comes into your home. To create a jingle bell door hanger, head to your local craft store and pick up 3-5 large jingle bells. You will also need some wire cutters and heavy gauge wire, cutting ribbons, one inch metal rings, and pliers. Most Jingle Bell door hangers are about 1 foot in length, but you can do them shorter if you would like. Once you have the length, you need to add 2 more inches to it since you will need to create a loop to hang around the door handle. Use the pliers to wrap the wire around the metal loop a couple of times. All you need to do is string the bells with about an inch of wire in between the bells. Once all the bells are in order, tie the other end of the wire to secure it. Now you can add several pieces of ribbon in between the bells to decorate it. Once this is done, it is complete and ready to be hung on the door handle.
Christmas wreath. If you would like to decorate the outside of your door, you need to make a Christmas wreath for it. A Christmas wreath is a fun way to show your neighbors of your love for this time of year. You will need to purchase a pre-made wreath body from a craft store; it’s a lot easier than trying to create the base on your own. You will then need to purchase a few different decorations to add to the wreath. First, spray it with some fake snow and then tie some blue ribbon around the wreath. Once this is done, add some snowmen to the center of the wreath. On the back of the wreath, glue a wire hook to the top of it in order to hang it from the door.
Candy Cane reindeer. This is a simple Christmas craft that you can easily create with the kids. You can also use this craft as a gift to pass out to neighbors and schoolteachers. You will need a few candy canes, ribbon, wiggle eyes, brown pompoms, pipe cleaners, and a glue gun. Glue the wiggle eyes to the rounded face of the candy cane and then glue a red pompom on the face to be the nose of the reindeer. Tie a ribbon onto the straight part of the candy cane and then cut a pipe cleaner in half and wrap it around the other pipe cleaner. The pipe cleaners will be the antlers of the reindeer, tie the straight pipe cleaner around the crook of the candy canes and take the cut pipe cleaner to shape into antlers.
